Starting point
This work was inspired by the concepts "The medium affects the way we read " and "The paper has a new perspective". With this tale I was looking to involve something more than reading, I wanted people to feel the textures, explore new worlds and make an emotional connection with the character and the experiences. I explored the perception and manipulation of objects using the senses of touch.
I started looking for editorial references that could help me understand how to translate an interactive experience into an editorial product. The closest reference was the Pop-Up books. It was interesting to me the way it moves the reader from a two-dimensional world to a three-dimensional world. The embossing was also fascinating to me because it engages the sense of touch, as well as being visually appealing.

Design process
I started writing the story, thinking about how can I connect it to the experiences I wanted to create with the Pop-ups. I defined that the story would be a character that takes the reader on a trip to three magical places. Every travel has 5 parts: The decision making of where to go, the travel invitation, the trip, the end of the trip and the moment in which the character gives the reader a physical souvenir of the trip.
After writing the story, I created pop-ups and illustrations looking to create an interaction with shadows, touch, and motion to make the reading remarkable.

The experience
Each cube has a different adventure. Each adventure has a journey and a souvenir. The journey is recreated by moving the cubes, observing the shadows and interacting with the background illustrations. The souvenir makes the trip an unforgettable memory and allows the reader to become more involved with the story.

The story

The first is a trip to a meadow to see the stars. During that trip, both the reader and Wako see a shooting star and make a wish. Wako invites the reader to write the wish in a small paper an put it inside the envelope. That wish is the souvenir the reader gets from that adventure.

The second is a trip in a hot air balloon over a city. During that trip, they see the house in the three where Wako lives. At that moment, Wako takes a selfie with a Polaroid and gives the picture to the reader as a souvenir of the trip.

The third is a submarine trip through the ocean. During that trip, they see a lot of animals and a shell. Wako takes the shell and gives it to the reader as a souvenir of the trip.
